Bikeless?
If anyone who knew me well asked what I was passionate about, I’m sure one of the answers would be biking. I raced for 9 years, and have logged thousands of kilometres on roads and trails. This is my current beautiful bike, a Biria with a Bion-x electric kit added to it.
Today was a lovely spring day, sunny and kind of warm. I excitedly took my bike out of the garage and put on my beautiful retro 60’s print helmet. Getting on was a bit more difficult but as I pushed off to go, I could not lift my second foot up onto the pedal. Hard to bike with one leg trailing behind so it was a no-go. I was very sad, as I love the freedom this bike gave me last year. I will try to figure out some sort of fix; maybe a strap around my knee that I can quickly grab? We will see what I can dream up…
Well……..a few hours later, after some thinking, I decided that I was not going to let this first try discourage me. With some trusty CMH ski straps I made a sling for one leg. I found that if I balanced myself against a solid object (like our truck) and placed my one foot on the first pedal, then lifted my second foot with the strap onto the other pedal; I was ready to roll. A strong push off with my arm was enough to get me going! So I happily rode around the local Greenbelt Trail. The only hitch… I need a solid object to lean on to start again. So if you see me cruising by on my bike, don’t expect me to stop!
